Galuchat, meaning sharkskin or stingray skin was named after Louis XV's master leather artisan, Jean-Claude Galuchat, who introduced this exotic material to France during the 18th century.
The barrel of the 2005 Pen of the Year is made of stingray leather or Galuchat. It uniquely combines properties that are usually mutually exclusive: It has a soft feel, while being remarkably resilient and tear-resistant. Each barrel exhibits an individually distinct pearl mosaic and develops special color nuances.
